Alexandra District Health and Eastern Health have recommended a voluntary amalgamation to strengthen local healthcare.
Why is this happening?
Following a comprehensive business case and staff and community engagement process, the Boards of Alexandra District Health and Eastern Health have formally recommended voluntary amalgamation.
This reflects our strong existing partnership, the fact that around 40 per cent of hospital care for Alexandra residents is already delivered by Eastern Health, and the changing health needs of the Alexandra catchment – including population ageing and increasing demand for specialist and chronic care services.
The recommendation provides the strongest platform to expand local services, strengthen our workforce and secure a sustainable future for healthcare in Alexandra.
Why this matters to you
This recommendation is about strengthening healthcare for Alexandra and district communities – now and into the future.
Voluntary amalgamation would support expanded local services, clearer care pathways between Alexandra and metropolitan hospitals, and a stronger, more sustainable health service.
Local identity will be protected. Alexandra District Health will retain its name, local leadership will remain, and funds raised locally will continue to support local services.
Our focus is simple: stronger local healthcare for our community, now and into the future.
Alexandra District Health and Eastern Health acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our services operate. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Throughout this voluntary amalgamation exploration, we will work with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners, cultural advisors and Elders.
